Success for Apprenticeships at ASMAG

Christian Kronberger wins the
Regional Metal Technology Apprentice Competition
of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO)

Scharnstein, 15th April 2019.

The machine and plant manufacturer ASMAG based in Scharnstein in the Almtal is a great choice for an apprenticeship to become a mechanical engineer. The results of this year's Upper Austrian Metal Technology Apprentice Competition held on April 4th speak for themselves: two engineering apprentices from the company took first and fifth place in the competition. Christian Kronberger (18) from St. Konrad set a clear record with 112 out of 115 possible points. And fifth place went to another ASMAG apprentice: Hans Hüthmayr (18) from Scharnstein, also a mechanical engineer, who secured his place among the 28 participants (of which 13 were mechanical engineers). Instructor Johannes Sieberer and the whole of ASMAG’s senior management were happy about this.

Because for ASMAG, the topic of education has a particularly high priority. Designed as an internationally oriented group of companies, ASMAG produces and installs individual machines up to complete production lines for the international steel and non-ferrous metal industries. As an owner-managed company, the focus is on in-house production, innovative technological solutions, high added value for customers and a high degree of quality awareness. In order to remain faithful to these maxims, ASMAG needs a superbly qualified and motivated team.

The many years of experience have shown that the best employees are precisely those who know the company from the bottom up and have continued to grow and develop their skills, possibilities and desires throughout their careers within the company. And it is clear - the better the education, the better the qualification - and the self-esteem of being an important person within the company.

"The results in Wels show that we are clearly on the right track," says a delighted Tina Ettinger, responsible for everything related to communication at ASMAG.

"At present twelve apprentices are being trained in the fields of mechanical engineering, steel construction technology, machining technology and electrical engineering. In 2011, even the National Apprentice Competition winner came out of our company. And who knows, maybe Christian Kronberger will also succeed when he will participate in October at the National Apprentice Competition in Hallein in Salzburg. In any case, we're already keeping our fingers crossed for him. "

Facts

According to the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO), in 2018 a total of around 23,000 apprentices were trained in almost 5,700 apprenticeship companies in Upper Austria. By far the largest share of male apprentices (15,645 in total) is being trained within the top apprenticeship sector, specifically the metal technology sector (18.08 percent). Of the female apprentices (7,515 in total) only just under 3 percent have chosen to work in this sector. The largest share of apprentices in the Upper Austrian districts is still Linz-Stadt with 19.35%, followed by Vöcklabruck with 9.30% and Linz-Land with 8.87%. The district of Gmunden, which also includes Scharnstein, occupies a notable fourth place with 15,588 apprentices and 463 apprenticeship companies.
